This section deals with the Squadron’s activities in India, flying the Wellington
and the B-
It’s not been easy to decide how best to portray 99’s time in India, so I’ve gone for the easy option of dividing it into the Wellington Period (to June 1944) and the Liberator Period (September 1944 to June 1945).
Firstly, though, it might be worthwhile considering how the Squadron got to India in the first place. Read here how the groundcrews made the trip: and read how one aircrew flew from England to Asonsol, and on to Digri.

None of the photos are presented here at high resolution, and don’t look as good

The Repair and Salvage Units in India are largely ignored in SEAC history, with the notable exception of Sansome’s book (click here). There appear to be relatively few first hand accounts of their experiences, hence I’ve included a story of the rescue of a 99 Squadron Wellington by 123 R&SU, which later became 135 R&SU, to which my father was detached in November 1942.
